Silicosis

Silicosis is a serious, irreversible lung disease caused by inhaling crystalline silica dust, leading to inflammation and scarring of the lungs. It is primarily an occupational hazard and causes impaired lung function.

Silicosis is a progressive and irreversible lung disease caused by the inhalation of crystalline silica dust over prolonged periods. The inhaled silica particles cause inflammation and scarring (fibrosis) of the lung tissue, leading to impaired lung function. Symptoms may include shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, chest pain, and in advanced stages, respiratory failure. Occupational exposure in industries such as mining, construction, sandblasting, and quarrying is the primary cause. The disease can present as acute, accelerated, or chronic silicosis depending on the intensity and duration of exposure.
