Esterification of creatine aimed to enhance absorption and muscle creatine storage, but studies haven't shown superiority over creatine monohydrate. Creatine esters do not appear to improve muscle uptake or performance beyond what is achievable with creatine monohydrate.
Theoretically, esterification of creatine was designed to improve its lipophilicity, enhancing absorption across cell membranes and leading to more efficient increases in muscle creatine stores compared to creatine monohydrate. However, research to date has not confirmed these proposed advantages. Existing studies suggest that creatine esters do not provide superior muscle creatine uptake or performance benefits when compared to creatine monohydrate.
