Anticoagulant Activity

Fucoidan exhibits anticoagulant properties by inhibiting blood clot formation. This effect can reduce the risk of blood clots but may increase bleeding risk, especially with blood thinners.

Fucoidan can interfere with the coagulation cascade, preventing the formation of blood clots. This is achieved through various mechanisms, including the inhibition of thrombin and other clotting factors. While this can reduce the risk of thrombotic events, it also increases the risk of bleeding, particularly when combined with other anticoagulant medications or in individuals with pre-existing bleeding disorders.
